National Geographic Kids Super Reader Program

We recently had the opportunity to review the  National Geographic Kids Super Readers Program.
The Super Readers program consists of non-fiction books that your kids can read and as they read, they can earn fun prizes!

We all know reading is a good thing. It's critical in children's success in school and later in life and there are many advantages in reading with your child. Better communication skills, academic excellence, mastery of language, enhanced concentration and a stronger relationship with you.  This program can help feed your child's natural curiosity about the world and get them excited about reading.

Here's how the program works:
  • .Visit the National Geographic Super Readers website HERE.
  •  Pick and download your free poster in the category of your child's reading level.
  •  Explore the books! There are so many interesting topics that your child will love. Everything from space to animals to history. They are sure to find many awesome topics to read.
  • Once you finished a book, you can cross its picture off the poster and return to the website to download a badge.
  •  Earn prizes! The kids will love earning fun prizes like stickers, bookmarks and door hangers. This will definitely be a motivation for your kids to keep up with their reading.
  • As you read more books, you can download more prizes!

Building a strong reader is important to us parents and I know finding books that piques our child's interest and fuels her excitement for nature, science and history is priceless. I love how engaged our daughter was as she read her favorite books to us.

We spent hours poring over these fascinating books. We especially loved the fun facts, silly puns and jokes that were sprinkled throughout the books.

Head over to National Geographic Super Readers website and begin the program! Your kids (and you!) will have a blast!

Books can be found at all major bookstores as well as the National Geographic site and Amazon.

Quick and Easy Valentine Gifts

I'd love to share a few quick and easy Valentine gift ideas with you. These jars are sweet little gifts for teachers, neighbors and friends. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, it doesn't hurt to get a jump start on the holiday of love!

Simply fill your jars with the candy of your choice. I used festive valentine scrapbook paper as a guide for which candy I was going to fill them with. For this one, I used gummy berries and the berry tag was a perfect match!

The darling bows are made out of paper using a 1-2-3 Punch Board and then adhered to the jar. The tag was cut out and attached to the jar as well.

And that's all there is to it! Sweet and simple but oh, so adorable (and yummy!).

Take a look at the other fun versions of these cute jars below!

I would have to really love someone to give them this pink jar filled with sweets. ;-)

You could use Swedish fish for this jar or even goldfish crackers. Either way, it will be "o'fish'ly" awesome!

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Supplies used:
Small plastic jars
Valentine paper
candy

Say hello to Lavender. She's the beloved doll of our 6 year old daughter and I'm pretty sure she has more clothes than I do. Our daughter's sweet and incredibly talented Grandmother gave this darling doll to her along with several beautifully handmade dresses.
We have a valentine party for our little one and her friends every year and this year we wanted to invite the dolls along too! Little girls and their dolls came over for an afternoon of cookies, crafts and fun!

First order of business was to dress the doll in a pretty tea party outfit. So many lovely gowns to choose from!

Look at those tiny heart pockets! So sweet!

Lavender is now dressed in her tea party finery and is ready to partake in some delicious tea party fare.

Pink milk in vintage milk bottles and beautiful valentine cookies were on the menu for the afternoon soiree.

These gorgeous cookies from my cousin Leigh ( Baby Gabey Cookies) were so beautifully detailed, it was hard to bite into them! Tiny ruffled dresses, mini cakes with delicate edible flowers and classic valentine hearts were the perfect cuisine for afternoon tea.

Who doesn't love to play with playdough? It's pretty much a staple at any party I throw when kids are involved. I made strawberry scented cloud dough and placed it in cute pails and attached mini rolling pins to the top.

You can download the You're So A "Doh" Able Valentine printable HERE.

If you haven't made cloud dough yet, I highly recommend it. It's so soft and smells heavenly....we could play with it for hours!

The girls each received green mini gift boxes as take home favors. I attached tiny heart balloons to the gift box with pink clothespins and added a bit of polka dot ribbon.

Inside the gift boxes were pretty candy favor containers filled with festive heart beads for the girls to make their own valentine bracelets.

The party finished up with the girls putting together these adorable cookie magnet crafts. Don't they look good enough to eat?!

I hope you enjoyed our Dolly and Me Tea Party, I know the girls and their dolls certainly did!

Valentine, You Color My World

Here is a valentine handout that everyone will adore! Who doesn't love to paint with watercolors? I used pearlized watercolors because we're big fans of all things shimmery and glittery at our house. Love all those pretty colors!

Download the tag HERE and attach to the top of the watercolors with bakers twine.

Hey Valentine, You're Cool

Bubbles, necklaces and whistles are a huge hit at our house. This valentine has all three! These fun popsicle bubbles can be worn as a necklace and the top of the wand doubles as a whistle. I found this cute paper that went perfectly with the popsicle theme of these valentines. Too cute!
